Spider cranes trade radius for capacity. Up close the 285 lifts 2.82 t; out at its full 8.2 m radius it still handles 150 kg — a window, a beam end, a bundle of roofing.

How much can the Maeda MC285C-3 lift, and at what reach?
Up to 2.82 tonnes at a 1.4 m radius with the outriggers fully extended. Capacity falls quickly as the boom goes out: about 1.2 tonnes at 3 m, 530 kg at 5 m and 150 kg at its full 8.2 m radius. How wide is the Maeda 285 and what can it get through?
750 mm wide with the tracks in and the boom stowed, 1,470 mm high and 2,800 mm long. That is narrower than a standard Australian front door and most side gates, so it drives through a house, down a side path or into a lift lobby without any dismantling.
How much does the Maeda MC285C-3 weigh, and can it work on a suspended slab?
1,990 kg all up, with 50 kPa of ground pressure on its tracks. That is why it is the machine we use on suspended slabs, upper floors and inside buildings, with timber mats under each outrigger to spread the load. Tell us which floor it will be working on and we plan the setup from there.
What is the difference between the Maeda 285 and the Maeda 305?
The 285 is the smaller, lighter crane: 750 mm wide, 1,990 kg and 8.7 m of hook height, built for doorways, indoor work and slabs. The 305 is 1,280 mm wide, 3,900 kg and reaches 12.52 m, so it lifts over a house and handles heavier steel at longer radius. Both lift close to three tonnes close in; the difference is reach and where they can go.
Can I dry hire the Maeda 285?
No. Every hire includes our ticketed operator, because a spider crane is a slewing mobile crane that needs a C2 high-risk work licence to run. The operator is in the hourly rate and we add riggers and dogmen when the lift needs them, so you do not need your own licence or crew.
What does MC285C-3 mean?
It is Maeda naming: MC is the mini crane range, 285 is the model series, C is the crawler-track base, and the -3 is the current generation of the model. Ours is the standard diesel MC285C-3 with the 4-fall hook block.
Can the Maeda 285 lift into a basement or excavation?
Yes. The hook can travel 10.1 m below the level the crane is standing on with the 4-fall block, so it lifts into basement excavations, lift pits and below-street sites from the kerb or the slab above.
How much does it cost to hire the Maeda 285 in Sydney?
$195 per hour plus GST with the operator included, with a six-hour minimum on site, so a typical day is $1,170 plus travel and GST. Travel to and from your site is quoted up front from our Rydalmere or The Entrance base instead of a float fee, and time past the minimum is charged in 15-minute increments.
