Mini Crane Hire · Sydney & Central Coast
Mini Crane Hire Sydney
Compact cranes that lift where big cranes can’t — the umbrella term for our spider and crawler cranes, matched to your access and load.
If you’ve been comparing “mini crane,” “spider crane” and “crawler crane” hire and wondering which one you actually need — here’s the short answer: for most jobs they’re the same machine described three ways. This page explains the category and helps you pick the right setup; the spider crane and crawler crane pages go deeper on each angle.
Mini vs spider vs crawler crane — explained
All three describe compact cranes for tight access. The difference is which feature you’re naming:
| Term | What it refers to | Best page for you |
|---|---|---|
| Mini crane | The umbrella term — any compact crane for restricted sites | You’re here |
| Spider crane | The set-up: four extendable outrigger “legs” for stability in tight, uneven spots | Spider crane hire |
| Crawler crane | The base: rubber tracks that drive over rough or soft ground | Crawler crane hire |
Our Maeda machines are all of the above — tracked base, spider-leg outriggers, compact body. So whichever term you searched, you’re in the right place.

Frequently asked questions
What is the difference between a mini crane, a spider crane and a crawler crane?
They are closely related and the words are often used for the same machines. “Mini crane” is the umbrella term for any compact crane built for tight access. Our Maeda machines are technically both crawler cranes (they drive on rubber tracks) and spider cranes (they set up on four extendable outrigger legs), so in practice mini, spider and crawler crane hire all describe the same equipment for most Sydney jobs.
How small an access can a mini crane fit through?
From about 750 mm wide with our Maeda 285 — narrow enough for standard doorways, side gates and tight passages. Our larger Maeda 305 is 1,280 mm wide for jobs that need more capacity and reach.
What can a mini crane lift?
Up to around 2.98 tonnes with our Maeda 305, and up to 12.5 m high. Typical loads include structural steel, glass panels, pool and spa shells, air-conditioning units and plant.
Do you provide an operator with the mini crane?
Yes. Every hire includes a fully ticketed, insured operator (wet hire), plus riggers and dogmen where needed. You don’t need your own crane licence.
Do you hire mini cranes across all of Sydney?
Yes — across Sydney, Western Sydney and the Central Coast, 24/7, from our Rydalmere depot and our Central Coast base at The Entrance for faster response.
