Tight Access Crane Hire

Tight Access Crane Hire · Sydney & Central Coast

Tight Access Crane Hire Sydney

When there’s no room for a normal crane — narrow driveways, backyards, laneways, indoors — we assess it, plan it, and lift it safely.

What is tight access crane hire? It’s specialist crane hire for sites where a standard crane simply can’t fit, set up or reach. Parramatta Cranes solves these lifts with compact mini and spider cranes, careful lift planning and ticketed operators — across Sydney and the Central Coast, 24/7. Send us photos of your access and we’ll tell you exactly how we’d do it. Call 0434 242 777.

Most crane problems aren’t about weight — they’re about access. If a truck-mounted crane can’t get down the side, set up its outriggers, or swing a boom past the powerlines, the job stalls before it starts. Tight access lifting is the specialty that gets it moving again: the right compact machine, in the space you actually have, with a plan that avoids the delays and extra costs that catch builders out.

What counts as a “tight access” site?

If any of these sound like your job, you need tight access crane hire rather than a standard crane:

Narrow side access

Gaps under a metre down the side of a house, through gates or between buildings.

No street frontage

Rear yards, battle-axe blocks and laneway sites a crane truck can’t reach.

Overhead powerlines

Streets where a full-size boom can’t safely operate under the lines.

Indoors & basements

Internal lifts, plant rooms and below-ground levels with height and space limits.

Suspended slabs & upper levels

Lifts on structures with floor-load limits that rule out heavy machines.

Soft or sloped ground

Lawns, sand and slopes where a wheeled crane would sink or slip.

How we solve a tight access lift

The machine is only half of it — the planning is what keeps your job on time and on budget:

  • Assess — we review access, ground, obstacles and the load from your photos or a free site visit
  • Plan — we set the lift plan, machine choice and rigging before the day, with full safety checks (SWMS)
  • Match the machine — the right Maeda for the access, plus a tracked carrier if the load has to travel in
  • Execute — ticketed operators, riggers and dogmen carry out the lift with minimal disruption

Don’t book the wrong crane

Access problems are one of the most common causes of delays and rebooking fees on Sydney sites. A little planning avoids them. Read common crane access issues and what happens when the wrong crane is booked — then send us your site details and we’ll get it right first time.

Frequently asked questions

What is tight access crane hire?

It’s crane hire for sites where a standard crane can’t fit, set up or reach — narrow driveways, backyards, laneways, indoor spaces, or under powerlines. We use compact mini and spider cranes that work safely in those restricted spaces, with a ticketed operator included.

How narrow an access can you get a crane through?

From about 750 mm wide with our Maeda 285 — standard doorways and side gates. If it’s tighter than that, we assess and plan the job, and can use a tracked carrier to move loads through even smaller gaps.

Do you assess the site before the job?

Yes. We review access, ground conditions, obstacles and the lift itself — from photos or a free site visit — and plan it before the day so there are no surprises, delays or rebooking. See how to prepare your site.

What if a mobile crane can’t get into my site?

That’s exactly what we’re for. Where a mobile or Franna crane can’t fit or set up, our compact cranes work in the footprint you already have — often with no road closure or traffic control. See spider crane vs big crane.

How much does tight access crane hire cost?

It depends on the access, load and duration, but mini crane hire generally runs from around $185–$250 per hour including an operator. Good planning keeps costs down — see our pricing guide.
